I could have cried

This is how I started off and I was mighty pleased with it and now
look at this! I could have cried! I sandwiched leaves and petals inbetween sheer fabric and body fabric. Well I should have used sheer fabric but I thought I would use net to get the colours of the petals and leaves through better. It does come out so much nicer but I forgot that leaves and petals crumble after they dry. So as you can see some of it came off once I turned the body. The thicker leaves and the rose petals held together well but the thiner ones crumbled. Now I have smeared all of it with glitter spray and I am hoping this will bind it and also it drys clear as well as it gives a shimmer. I really did not want to discard the body. I might have to touch the gaps up with more gold paint. She is going to be a big doll and her whole body is made with silk fabric.
PS: I don't know if this is goodnews or not but they are not rats but mice. Well whatever they are I don't want them in the house.

  1. Oh, Shashi! It STILL looks so lovely! You know what? I actually WONDERED yesterday if those leaves would crumble, but I thought maybe you'd figured a way to keep them from doing so. LOL! I should have followed my instinct and ASKED you, huh? Still, the fabric looks MARVELOUS! Such a clever idea & a unique piece!

  2. Shashi it adds interest to the body this way, in the picture it does anyway. Maybe when your finished with it you can varnish and seal though whole doll.

  3. Hi Shashi,

I have used real leaves and flowers in some of my crafting, and I have found if you soak them overnight in glycerine, they become plyable and dont fall apart, plus they keep a lot longer.
I think if you seal it when it is finished with mat Mod Podge it will keep the rest of it together.
It is still a lovely body.

  4. In the picture, the body looks great! I think the crumbling of some of them just adds to the effect. But I understand the frustration when something doesn't turn out the way I had envisioned it would.

  5. Hi Shashi,
I think the body is beautiful. You should go over it with a leaf shaped sponge and stamp leaf shapes where there are gaps. I think she will be beautiful. Keep going and she will turn out gorgeous as all your dolls are.

    Hugs...heera

  6. You've had some good suggestions here already, Shashi, so I'll just tell you I think it's beautiful. I know that however you decide to finish her, she'll be fabulous!

  7. Sorry the body didn't turn out like you wanted, I know that frustration. But I think it looks really pretty as it is .. the crumbling petals just add a whole new dimension to the piece. It's a beautiful body by the way.
