smiling!

I have been working on this little fellow and at last I have made him smile I think. His eyes didn't turn out the way I wanted it to but he is much too small a figure for me to do anymore. I have been remiss in not mentioning that this is a class doll of Katheryn Walmsley who is a wonderful artist. This is an on line class Yule Baby in DollStreet by her. The face looks very grainy in close up but I have sanded him quiet a bit and still it looks like this. I am finding it hard to sand the face as I don't want to loose the details and the face is so small. He is only about 7 1/2 inches tall. I guess he needs to be just painted now.

  1. I'm not a doll-maker so I can't give you any advice on the sanding part but he's looking pretty darned good from where I'm sitting, Shashi ~ :)

  2. He is delightful Shashi. I see what you mean about the graininess, but sometimes the clay dictates its own look. Are you planning on dressing him?

  8. Shashi... Thank you for stopping by Woodstown Whimsies! Your work in progress is terrific. I am fond of such posts; as we have opportunity to watch these incredible dolls come from a lump of clay and become extraordinary creations! Daryle

  9. Keep going Shashi. It's like painting or any other art form, they all have what we call the ugly stage and then the swan emerges...He's going to be fabulous.

  10. I think he looks great Shashi...you are so clever.
(Don't know whether this helps, but when I did my cloth/clay doll I used a small emery board to sand the face.)
