I wanted to finish my doll this weekend but on Friday I did my back in so could not do much as I found sitting up very painful. However I did manage to dye some fabrics for the doll. Nothing strenuous I used some of the shavings from the inktense pencils since I did not want to waste the colour and it is amazing how much of colour gets shaved off while sharpening pencils as you can see. So I managed to dye some cheesecloth with this water.
I wet the lace and gently ran the pencil over it to colour the lace. So this is what I have been doing while resting my back
Hope you all had a creative and restful weekend
Hi Shashi, first of all I really hope your back is much better this morning. Backs are funny things they work fine for ages and then decide to go on strike! I really hate having a sore back but the only thing to do is rest, so you were right to take it easy.
ReplyDeleteSecondly, I had no idea you could use pencil shavings to make dye. How did you discover that? You are using all the colours I like best – soft greens and blues are always so pretty, and they match the image from the front of the book perfectly.
Have a lovely week, Barbara x
My back is much better today. Have to be careful that I make no sudden movements though. Barbara you can't do this with all pencils. These are special water colour pencils which have a sort of dye or ink in them and work like watercolours but once dry unlike normal water colours become permanent.
DeleteThat’s fascinating Shashi, I wasn’t even aware you could get such things. There is a really good art shop (or it looks good to me) in Dorchester. I must go and have a proper look next time I’m there. Glad your back is on the mend. Barbara x
DeleteOh you poor thing. I hope your back is better today. Do get it checked out won't you Shashi- my chiropractor recommended ice and I always have 2medicinal icepacks at the ready in my freezer.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea to use the Inktense pencil shavings! The colour is lovely. Do take care and get well very soon. xxx
Yes I thought waste not want not and did not have the heart to throw away so much of colour which I could use.
DeleteHope your back is better soon. Love the colour of your lace :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Wendy I feel better today but it was a wasted weekend after I had planned to finish the doll
Deletehope you back is feeling better
ReplyDeletedo you have to set the fabric with anything after using the inktense pencils?
As far as I know they become permanent once they dry Jen. Oh I love them the colours are so intense even after drying
Deletethe colours are gorgeous and still nice and bright when they dry (on paper for me at least :) ) haven't used them for anything but drawings :)
Deletethis is so cool - I didn't know u could use shavings from Inktense pencils for dye...wow. can't wait to see the finished doll.
ReplyDeleteSandy for dyeing small stuff in small quantities it is great as one is then using up that which would have been thrown away.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love those blues and greens..... how pretty they are ...
ReplyDeleteThanks Vee I bought some green silks which I wanted to use on her so it worked out well.
