Getting there

I have been working on Angela Jereski's class doll. At last I am getting there I feel. It took me a long time to sculpt the head but finally I got it done and it is passable I think. I also started another head but I can already see lots of things that are not right.
This doll as you can see is a fairy with her skinny legs and strange ears.

Here are some of the fabrics I brought out to choose. At present I am only checking what colours I will use. They all are silk with a beautiful sheen to them which does not come out very well in the pictures.
I am leaning towards the light green and gold but I shall see. First I need to do the stockings which is going to be challenging as well because I don't have any suitable knitted fabrics that I can use. I got some plain white knitted fabric which I am hoping to dye.

Today I finished attaching the head. Now have to leave it till tomorrow for drying. Waiting is the hardest thing to do.
Inspiration for the pose came from this book

  1. Dear Shashi, first of all I must thank you for your sweet comment. Meeting lovely people like you is the very best part of blogging, thank you.
I adore your new doll. She is just so elegant, and she looks very like the fairy on the front cover of the book. I rather like the colours she is dressed in (blues and greens), and I love her hat and wings..

    1. Thank you so much Barbara. I do love this illustration so I got the book. Inside there are not many big illustrations but they are all my favourite stories and small illustrations which are cute. I hope to make the smaller cheeky looking fairy as well but most probably it will be iin cloth.

  2. Love your new doll. Can’t wait to see what you choose to dress her in. But the green and blue does look rather nice :)

    1. Thanks Mary Ann. I see that Angela is teaching the traveler doll again. I missed it last time so I might take that this time

    2. That was one of my favourite dolls to make. I think it is probably one of the best dolls I've made so far.

  5. looks good :) I would go with the red and blue, but I tend to pick colours that end up not looking right :p

  6. Thanks Jen. At first I was thinking of blue and green and gold but leaning towards gold and green now. I might end up totally with a different colour who knows

  7. hey Shashi ....is it paper clay that you are using for sculpting? probably if you are waiting for it to dry ....it looks great. I know the fingers must have been a bear to work with as they are so skinny....and, paper clay is tricky to work with in some skinny situations...like fingers! ...yikes....great job!

    1. Thanks Vee. Yes I am working with paperclay. I found her nose and lips the most difficult to do.

  9. Thanks Sandy. I took the picture towards the evening and that was the only spot I could find to get a good picture of her
